The 12 gods are the main deities in the Greek shrine, ruling on Mount Olympus. The gods of Olympus gained dominance after Zeus led the gods to victory in battle with the Titans.

The oldest document about religious rituals to the gods is found in Homer hymns of Hermes. The Greek cult of the Twelve Olympians can be traced back to the 6th century BC Athens and has almost no precedent in the Mycenaean period. The worship of the twelve Olympians is usually determined to begin around the time Pesistratos was regent in Athens, in 522/521 BC.
